The landfill places which takes advantage of gas generated in the process are relatively fewer. The gas produced in the process will not only cause environmental pollution, but also cause various hidden danger.
     China is strong agricultural country. The best way to dispose sludge is to improve the utilization ratio of land. Because sludge contains rich P and N elements, sludge can be used as fertilizer for agricultural production. Based on the basic situation that is lack of scientific, effective management methods and agricultural standards in our country, in the utilization of sewage sludge process, due to improper treatment, sludge becomes a new source of pollution. Overall, incineration and composting treatment methods need high cost and the technology for gas utilization and disposal is not very advanced, which will easily produce new pollution.
Development direction
   With environmental pollution problems becoming more and more prominent, the targets of sludge disposal in sewage plants are reduction, harmlessness and stabilization in order to improve utilization efficiency sludge resource. Sludge treatment should adhere to the principles of "safety, environmental protection and energy saving" in order to achieve the purpose of energy saving and emission reduction. Therefore, it is necessary to make these targets as a sewage plant sludge treatment goals and clear government’s responsibility in pollution treatment.
In the process of learning from foreign advanced pollution treatment technology, we found that aims of reduction, harmlessness and reclamation can be combined with in pollution treatment process. At present, China's implementation of sludge resources, there are still many problems in the process of sludge reclamation of china. Our country can not arrange resources reasonably. Therefore, it is necessary to regard reclamation and harmlessness as targets of sludge treatment and promote disposal level of China's urban sewage treatment plants.
     In current situation, compared with other processing methods, sludge incineration technology can reduce the amount of sludge effectively.  There are many aftermaths for sludge landfill, land use and other methods. it involves in many management departments. More problems easily happen in pollution supervision and control aspects, which aggravates  pollution. Although incineration method needs high cost, with the continuous progress of the present stage of sewage treatment technology, and innovation of disposal technology, it meets the requirements of development on the environment. Especially, it can be applied to some of towns with shortage of land resources.
For a long time, the research and investement on sludge disposal  in China are mainly used in the following two aspects: 1. Introduce foreign advanced technology and equipment in order to transform domestic equipment; 2. strengthen pollution treatment at the end in order to achieve relevant process standards. Thus, it will cause two complete different technical directions and cause different effects to sludge disposal, which is mainly reflected in:1. regard sludge digestion as goal. The sludge digestion facilities in our country and technology standard can not meet the demand of modern sewage treatment.under the guidance of traditional ideas which emphasizes sewage treatment and ignores sludge disposal, the utilization efficiency of digestion facilities is low. 2. Take reclamation as goal. Under the effect of disposal technology, cost sludge and other complex factors, sewage disposal treatment plants can not achieve the goal of reclamation.
     Because of different economy and geographical between towns and cities, in the process of sewage sludge treatment, sewage plants cannot adopt uniform disposal methods. As a result, sewage plants should analyze many factors comprehensively in the disposal process such as quality and trace elements. Also, sewage plants should consider the cost, economic benefits, environmental factors benefit and reasonable application of innovative processing technology. From the long-term interests of the sludge treatment, harmless and reclamation processes can, promote economic development and sustainable strategy. Therefore, the sewage treatment plant must continuously update and transform the current processing technology and sludge treatment process technology. Sewage plants not only can achieve reduction of pollution and sludge harmless and reclamation aims in order to maintain a balanced development of natural resources in China.
It can be learned from the above description, the sludge must be processed by advanced technology, process and equipment in order to achieve aims of reduction, harmlessness and resource. Then, improve urban land resources utilization efficiency. The reclamation, harmlessness and reduction methods will be important ways for sludge disposal in China's urban sewage treatment plants.
